In the past, life advice was contained to the unverifiable anecdotes of a few people in your community: You could argue that this number was equivalent to the size of your family or tribe.

This advice came with assumptions about the world, such as:

  • The most compensated worker is also the hardest worker.
  • The poor do more drugs than the rich.
  • Celebrities are important because a higher power intended for them to be (through various "talents").

But then globalization and the information age came along, producing mass data over the entire human populace.

New developments in dating, business, and other endeavors came from data where n != 1. Of course, these developments are only available to people willing to throw away the old information where n = 1.
